Australia's jobless rate at 5.4% in May

Australia's unemployment rate came in at a seasonally adjusted 5.4 per cent in May, the Australian Bureau of Statistics said on Thursday.

The Australian economy added 12,000 jobs last month - shy of expectations for 19,000 following the addition of 22,600 a month earlier.

The participation rate dipped to 65.5 per cent, below expectations for 65.6 per cent and down from 65.7 per cent in April.
