Weighed down by sharp losses in oil&gas and PSU stocks, the Indian equity benchmarks ended flat on Wednesday, paring most of early gains. The broader markets witnessed some correction after strong rally in the last few session, with MidCap and SmlCap falling as much as 0.69 per cent and 0.59 per cent, respectively. Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Industries (RIL) soared over 3 per cent, hitting fresh 52-week high, as investors widened bet on company on hopes that the company will report another strong financial numbers in July – September quarter.
The 30-share barometer SENSEX closed at 32186.41, up by 27.75 points or by 0.09 per cent, while the NSE Nifty ended at 10079.3, down by 13.75 points or by 0.14 per cent.
During the day’s trade, Sensex touched intraday high of 32348.3 and intraday low of 32126.77, while the NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 10131.95 and intraday low of 10063.15.
The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 502.95,+4.02%), Reliance Industries Ltd. (Rs. 849.10,+3.13%), Dr. Reddy's Laboratories Ltd. (Rs. 2210.10,+2.09%), Lupin Ltd. (Rs. 992.10,+1.10%), Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 389.80,+0.67%), among others.
On the flip side, ITC Ltd. (Rs. 271.50,-2.18%), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 401.00,-0.96%), Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 1780.40,-0.95%), Cipla Ltd. (Rs. 554.30,-0.91%), Wipro Ltd. (Rs. 296.05,-0.74%), were among top losers on BSE.
On the sectoral front, healthcare and financial stocks emerged as top gainers, rising as much as 1.15 per cent and 0.17 per cent respectively.
The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 2957, shares advanced were 1109, while 1668 shares declined, and 180 were unchanged.
