Sensex, Nifty trim losses; L&T, Asian Paints top losers

The key domestic benchmark indices trimmed losses in the post-afternoon session, led by Reliance Industries and recovery in banks.

Reliance Industries gained nearly than 2 per cent, followed by Axis Bank (up 1.63 per cent).

The markets were still trading marginally lower as domestic WPI inflation rose to 6-month high of 3.59 per cent in October, dimming interest rate cut hopes by the Reserve Bank of India.

In other development, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley ruled out a single rate for the goods and services tax (GST), adding any further rationalisation of tariffs would be contingent on revenues.

At 14:08 hours, BSE SENSEX was at 33006.39 down by -27.17 points or by -0.08 % and NSE Nifty was at 10207.4 down by -17.55 points or by -0.17 %.

Meanwhile, the European markets are higher today with shares in Germany leading the region. The DAX is up 0.40% while France's CAC 40 is up 0.40% and London's FTSE 100 is up 0.20%.

Back home, the BSE Sensex touched intraday high of 33126.55 and intraday low of 32914.42. The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 10248 and intraday low of 10180.7.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (Rs. 1214.00,-2.12%), Asian Paints Ltd. (Rs. 1154.40,-1.76%), Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (Rs. 207.75,-1.73%), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 2715.00,-1.59%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 525.25,-1.36%), among others.

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Reliance Industries Ltd. (Rs. 892.40,+1.97%), Hero MotoCorp Ltd. (Rs. 3645.50,+1.73%), Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 546.55,+1.63%), Bajaj Auto Ltd. (Rs. 3262.45,+1.58%), Lupin Ltd. (Rs. 840.60,+1.45%), among others.

Among the sectors, BSE_CGS index was at 18221.81 down by -224.07 points or by -1.21%. CG Power and Industrial Solutions Ltd. (Rs. 81.00,-2.23%), Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (Rs. 1214.00,-2.12%), GE T&D India Ltd. (Rs. 386.65,-1.89%), Greaves Cotton Ltd. (Rs. 123.00,-1.72%), Va Tech Wabag Ltd. (Rs. 557.00,-1.70%).

On the other hand, BSE Realty index was at 2292.62 up by 19.33 points or by 0.85%. Sobha Ltd. (Rs. 512.05,+2.65%), DLF Ltd. (Rs. 206.55,+2.08%), Housing Development & Infrastructure Ltd. (Rs. 59.50,+1.97%), Indiabulls Real Estate Ltd. (Rs. 224.15,+1.68%), Omaxe Ltd. (Rs. 207.20,+0.93%).

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 2858, shares advanced were 1213 while 1500 shares declined and 145 were unchanged.
