Sensex falls over 120 pts, Nifty nears 10700; Brent crude inches up towards $80/bbl

The key Indian benchmarks are trading in the red even as Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader B S Yeddyurappa took oath as the 23rd chief minister of Karnataka earlier in the day.

Meanwhile, Brent crude oil prices inch up towards USD 80 a barrel as supplies tighten while demand remains strong. Meanwhile, global cues and corporate earnings are likely to impact investor sentiment as the day progresses.

In key results today, Bajaj Finance, Bajaj Finserv, Escorts and Kirloskar Industries are likely to announce their March 2018 quarter earnings later in the day.

At 13:09 hours, BSE SENSEX was at 35265.55 down by -122.33 points or by -0.35 % and then NSE Nifty was at 10706.2 down by -34.9 points or by -0.32 %.

The BSE Sensex touched intraday high of 35510.01 and intraday low of 35227.77. The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 10777.25 and intraday low of 10696.85.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 608.70,-2.15%), Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 1883.30,-1.65%), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 369.25,-1.63%), Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 543.50,-1.06%), Dr. Reddy's Laboratories Ltd. (Rs. 1973.00,-1.06%), among others.

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 317.55,+2.30%), Coal India Ltd. (Rs. 269.65,+1.87%), Wipro Ltd. (Rs. 279.05,+1.73%), Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 185.90,+1.31%), Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (Rs. 1586.10,+0.76%), among others.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was strong. On BSE out of total shares traded 2640, shares advanced were 1312 while 1201 shares declined and 127 were unchanged.
