Sensex Nifty opens higher; Infosys Q1 eyed

Indian equities opened on positive note on Friday tracking bullish trend across SGX Nifty Index Futures and firm cues across other Asian markets. Overseas, Asian stocks were trading higher, mirroring positive closing at Wall Street in overnight trade, amid easing trade war between US and China.

On the corporate front, shares of Fortis Healthcare will remain in focus after the company said that its board has unanimously decided to recommend the binding investment proposal from IHH Healthcare Berhad (IHH) to invest INR 4,000 crore by way of preferential allotment at a price per share of Rs 170.

Among others, traders will also keep an eye on shares of IT bellwether Infosys as it will announce their quarterly numbers later in the day. Apart from Infosys, Bajaj Corp is another key firm which is likely to announce its June quarter results later today.

At 9:25 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 36626.12 up by 77.71 points or by 0.21 per cent, while the NSE Nifty was at 11056.9 up by 33.7 points or by 0.31 per cent.

Sensex touched intraday high of 36671.25 and intraday low of 36584.28 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 11056.9 and intraday low of 11056.9.

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Wipro Ltd. (Rs. 283.80,+1.54%), Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 1313.65,+1.47%), Coal India Ltd. (Rs. 268.50,+1.24%), Reliance Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1091.95,+0.90%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 561.15,+0.87%), among others.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were State Bank of India (Rs. 260.20,-0.97%), Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 158.30,-0.47%), ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 271.60,-0.29%), Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 1957.95,-0.19%), Vedanta Ltd. (Rs. 211.15,-0.09%), among others.

Among the sectors, Metal index was at 12596.88 up by 85.24 points or by 0.68%. Jindal Steel & Power Ltd. (Rs. 222.50,+1.62%), Coal India Ltd. (Rs. 268.50,+1.24%), Steel Authority of India (SAIL) Ltd. (Rs. 75.85,+1.20%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 561.15,+0.87%), JSW Steel Ltd. (Rs. 318.70,+0.60%),.

On the flip side, Bankex index was at 29916.68 down by -42.35 points or by -0.14%. Bank of Baroda (Rs. 118.20,-1.13%), State Bank of India (Rs. 260.20,-0.97%), Punjab National Bank (Rs. 75.75,-0.53%), ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 271.60,-0.29%), YES Bank Ltd. (Rs. 374.70,-0.03%),.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 925 , shares advanced were 557 while 339 shares declined and 29 were unchanged.
